What a wonderful story that has come out of such a tragic accident. I think it's invaluable that the world has gotten a chance to see that so many people involved in Thoroughbred racing genuinely respect and care for these amazing animals. Watching everyone around Barbaro patting him and comforting him on the track while waiting for the ambulance was a sight I will never forget.

Thank you for a great website - you can also find great info and updates on Barbaro at Tim Wooley's site. I too have been captivated by this gorgeous horse and pray for his recovery. Somewhere I read where it was suggested his offspring (God willing there'll be many)should be named "UNFINISHED BUSINESS" - I think it's very fitting.

Although I don't have race horses, I have always admired the Thoroughbred & have often imagined the thrill that there must be seeing your horse cross that finish line first. That must be true even more so at the Classics. I do know the saddness when a injury robs your horse from reaching his potential. I am reminded of a passage(that I have read any times over the years) in the book Album of Horses by Marguerite Henry when she writes of Samuel Riddle refering to the "heart" of the
Thoroughbred. Mr. Riddle would say that "Thoroughbreds don't cry" and would speak of Assault, Black Gold, Dark Secret and War Admiral, the ones who showed this courage. Ms. Henry finishes the chapter with this: No Thoroughbreds don't cry. Big in heart, high in courage, they go on to finish the race.

Must be his wonderful spirit that I have connected with. I was so inspired, I did a pencil drawing (I don't draw very often)of one of the photos posted online and would like to send a few to New Bolton, Edgar, Peter Brette and Michael Matz and The Jacksons. Words cannot express the sadness, horror and grief experiences while witnessing the events of the Preakness. The sight of Barbaro in distress will always be in my mind. But so is the pictures of Barbaroin his stall, recovering, eating hay and nuzzling the vets who care for him so brillantly.

Barbaro is a true champion, the likes we have not seen in a long time. All of the people around him are also true champions - the Jackson family who are nothing but a CLASS ACT, Michael Matz and his family, truly caring, loving, "stand up" people, Dr Dean and the other vets - all BRILLANT and should be praised to the heavens for everything that did and continue to do for this wonderful horse.

Everyone touching Barbaro resonates with skill, care, love, TALENT, knowledge, LOVE OF THE ANIMAL, you are all true first class horsemen and women.

Barbaro is a champion surrounded by champions. All of America is behind this remarkable horse and his owners, trainer, jockey, exercise rider(s), grooms, vets. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I was literally within 20 feet of Barbaro when he broke down on the Pimlico track and I was so upsaet I cant tell you to see such a magnificent animal in pain. Well done to the Jockey and Pimlico staff for their prompt response...to his owners for caring and to the staff at the Large Animal facility that have saved his life.

Dear Barbaro... This Saturday The Belmont will run here in NY without you, one of the greatest horses to come around in a long while!! They will place a blanket of flowers on the winners back, but that will not matter to many of us who have given our hearts away to you. We will all imagine you there in the winners circle after capturing the last leg of the Triple Crown. Barbaro, you have already won the Triple Crown, Breeders Cup and Horse of the Year.

I am a volunteer at Lincoln animal shelter and saved a little kitten last Sept. who did not have a left hind foot had been knawed off and because I was born without a thumb on my right hand I identified with this kitten who had been found in a trash container. HE WAS SICKLY, FLEAS INFESTED AND I TOOK HIM HOME AND PRAYED TO ST. FRANCIS WHO I BELIEVED MADE HIM WELL HE HAD HIS LEG AMPUTATED AT THE HIP IN NOV. AND DOES VERY WELL. HIS NAME IS
BRUSCHI AFTER TEDDY OUR PATRIOT PLAYER WHO SURVIVED SOME HEALTH ISSUES. AND I PRAY TO ST FRANCIS FOR BARBARO TO RECOVER!! I HAVE SEEN MICHAEL MATZ RIDING OPEN JUMPERS SINCE 1970'S AND ALWAYS ADMIRED HIM. MY SON IS ALSO INVOLVED WITH HORSES, AMERICAN SADDLE BREDS AND KNOWS THE VET WHO OPERATED ON BARBARO AND HAS SAID HE IS THE ONE GUY WHO CAN MAKE HIM WELL.
